Home Made Goodness

In an effort to ATTEMPT to spend my time creating more and consuming less (GoT excepted)… tonight I sat down and instead of scrolling FB endlessly…I made a scrapbook layout (!) gasp.  I know, I know.  We have actually been super busy in a good way this summer so lots going on but not a lot of sharing. In an effort to remedy that, may I present…

yep, Christmas baking layouts in August!  I had bought the cutest baking kit from Pink Reptile Designs and a template kit from Scrapping with Liz at The Lilypad (one of my fave digi-scrapping shops) and tonight was the night to use it.

Last night I spent my evening catching up with my 2016 photos in Lightroom, and I’m thrilled to say that I believe that 2016 is all done, edited, rated and tagged.  That is why I could find these photos about baking…from my “baking” keyword.  I have a lot of memory keeping to work on.  I have realized that I’ve been catching myself thinking 2 more first-days-of-school until the girls go to college, 2 more back-to-school shoppings until the girls go to college … you get the idea.   One layout to make a dent in the memory keeping list!

Once school starts and we are on a more normal schedule, maybe more posting  (?!)  best of intentions…. enjoy!

Memory keeping: December Daily – Day 6

Happy Friday…again!!  Banner morning for making stuff, cleaning up and doing laundry (I guess that’s what happens when you get up at 4:30 am!  I’ll be napping soon….)  The story of the 6th is the story of an early Christmas present for Charlie !!   I’m trying to catch up and keep things simple so here we go….

Double spread today, you get my messy desk and attempts at caffeination as a bonus!

Left side close up…That card was perfect!  mixing elements from Ali’s main kit and the Authentique Classic Christmas line… I inked the back of the circle from the 5th green and added paper and a sticker, see through snowflakes from the 5th and made up a card and the santa head from Ali’s shop

dd6-3

Right side close up… Charlie enjoying his early Christmas gift!  I used the overlay on top of the photo and changed the color to better coordinate w the layout, added a sticker from Authentique sheet.  Journaling on a card I made up from Ali’s 4×6 Templates vol. 3, changed the color to coordinate w the layout, typed up the journaling, printed it out on yardstick I’d trimmed to 4×6 before running thru printer… added sticker tag w some bakers twine… Done!

Here’s how the see-through elements from day 5 worked with the day 6 layout… I think they work together pretty well!     OK off to get ready for work and do more laundry!  Catching up slowly but surely!

Happy weekending!

Memory Keeping:: Layout Share

Happy Friday everyone!

A quick departure from December Daily shares for… a Christmas layout!    Because as I look out my window right now, it looks a lot like the photo below…but 40 degrees colder!    Kit and template are from Joy to the World Bundle (buy the bundle, get the templates and the kit yippee!)  by Little Feet Digital Designs.

I wonder what the weather gods will bring for us this year?!  Santa, can we have enough snow to look pretty but not enough to really have to work hard at shoveling?!

Happy weekend crafting!!!

Memory keeping: December Daily – Day 5

Well it’s now the 8th and I’m a few days behind on DD….honestly I am not sure what happened and why it’s Thursday because wasn’t it just Tuesday???  Yikes…better start Christmas shopping or it will be xmas eve and I’ll be madly clicking on Amazon!

I knew the story of Day 5 was going to be the story of the first snow of the season.  The girls were SO excited when they went out to the bus and it was snowing… as evidenced by the blown-up SnapChat screen grab I made from Lily ;-).  So the story was there it has just taken 2 days to sit down and pull it together!

I knew I was going to use the snapchat photo, plus another photo Charlie sent as well as the “five things” card from the Main AE Dec. Daily Kit.  The rest up in the air… I ended up finding the PERFECT piece of transparent overlay when I was looking in a box for something else….as a bonus, when I took the protective plastic off I realized the little branches were blue! yay…   Found old snowflake stamp and stamped paper as a background for the snapchat photo which is on the left, then used it for the “5” that went on the overlay along with a “let it snow” banner from who knows when???   I went with a 4 pocket page protector and put in Charlie’s photo of the backyard along with the “5 Things” card, the “celebrate this” round backed in a bit of blue paper and then hand-trimmed, and some wood snowflakes from last year (?) with some shiny sparkly enamel dots.

dd5-1

Used Ali Edwards Gold Makers ink for stamping, beautiful metallic finish!  I also added in some mini wood veneer snowflakes that I’ve had forever here and there on the layout.

dd5-2

Journaling by hand…is it perfectly straight?  No.  Was it the pen that I wanted to use to  write? No…somewhere is my lt grey sharpie pen and I know not where it has disappeared to hmmm… BUT I just got on with it and got it done.  Repeat with me…done is better than perfect.

Close-up of the transparency overlaid over the page… I slipped a sheet of white paper under for clarity until I figure out what is going on the back for Day 6.  I love playing with transparencies and the hide and seek of what’s underneath!

And Day 5 is in the book!  On to Day 6 and I’m sure I will finish catching up tomorrow! (ha ha)

Memory keeping: December Daily – Day 4

Happy snowy grey Monday from New England!

The story of the 4th was the story of Mary.  This year for Advent, our pastor is presenting a sermon series that focuses on one person from the Christmas Story each week.  This was Mary’s week, as part of the sermon, Stacey showed paintings of Mary depicted in many different styles.  Because the choir sits behind the altar and the TV screens, we can’t see the photos but I knew what my page for the 4th was going to be by the time church was over.   This painting of Mary that I chose for my page was done by Edward Burne-Jones who was an artist aligned with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, a style of painting and decoration I love.

dd4-1

The aspect ratio of the image was such that I printed it roughly 3×8″, backed it with some gold star paper I’ve been hoarding forever, and had this brass star label in my stash just waiting for the right project.  I used Ali’s December Daily 6×8 Overlay for the passages from Luke that were read in church and a little note on the bottom (this would be where the “hybrid” part of the project comes in).  I changed the color on the overlay pulling a gold/tan from the painting (It looks better in person than in the photo) and added a strip of copper/gold washi  at the bottom of the page.  I suspect I know what my story will be on the 11th and the 18th (!).  This took very little time to do other than the fact that (of course) I had to replace 4 colors of ink in my printer.

Here is the back of the insert with the “4” from the Main DD kit embossed with gold

dd4-2

And here how it looks in the album living next to day 4.  I love the way it turned out.

dd4-3

I did a little updating on the day 3 layout, the “3” that I had papered and inked just wasn’t doing it for me so I carefully sliced it off the photo with an exact-o knife, embossed it with red glitter, then glued it onto a new photo that I had to print because even though I was super careful, there was one scuff from the knife and I’d rather re-print than obsess about that one tiny mark every time I opened the book!  (that makes 4 times that I printed the photo eek!  but now it’s done)
