Going analog in a digital world

I think this may be a first…two posts in one day.

Today I went analog in a digital world

clocks

I ordered these:

Yes, my exciting life….old school analog battery operated alarm clocks.  They don’t flash, they only make one noise, they run on batteries, there is a FACE to read, not luminescent numbers, they don’t “dock” anything.  They just tell the time and wake you up when you set the (one) alarm.  And they cost less than $20 each.

In truth…the girls have been through several alarm clock/cd playing/cassette playing/ iPod docking clocks in the last twelve years.  And, the last dock/clock they have (they each have the same one) we cannot figure out how to reset the alarm…every time they unplug it…which is all the time,  SO   we are going analog over here.   Orange for Gwen, Ivory for Lily and the “classic” for me in my studio because I have no clock in here and need to know when to stop making stuff up here and head to the kitchen to make stuff to feed the fam.

Going analog in a digital world…*sigh* loving old-school.

For the love of labs

As occurs on some occasions, I went down the rabbit hole this morning while poking around on my laptop and having that first critical cup of tea.  I ended up weeding through old bookmarks and came across the one for Lucky Lab Rescue and of course I clicked on it.  Lucky Lab is the organization where we found our dog Shadow, and I was kind of happy to see that they are still around and still saving Labs.  It would be lovely if they had to close down because there were no more Labs in danger of euthenasia and responsible pet owners spayed and neutered their pets so only pets that were wanted were out in the world.

I was stopped in my tracks by a piece on the page that talked about black labs being put down at higher rates than yellow or chocolate ones…what??  really??

Here is and excerpt from the Lucky Lab Rescue site:

The most popular color of Labs are yellow and chocolate. They tend to get rescued and adopted more often than black labs. Some shelters will automatically euthanize black Labs and some rescue organizations will accept the yellow and chocolate over the black Lab. We at Lucky Labs love our yellows and chocolates, but also feel very committed to rescuing black Labs due to their plight.

“The plight of the black dog refers to the low adoption rate and high euthanization rate of black dogs in shelters. Black dogs are often the last to be adopted from an animal shelter. You may not be aware of how doomed black dogs are when they are brought to the average animal shelter. Black dogs, particularly large black dogs like Labradors or Lab mixes, have a very difficult time getting adopted, and are euthanized at a staggering rate at many animal control facilities throughout the country. The sad truth
is, they are overlooked in favor of lighter colored dogs.”

Oh My word

Yes! all three of them fit in the crate… Shadow is in heaven...

We love your black lab.   Please support your local dog rescue organizations and practice being RESPONSIBLE pet owners!!   And don’t worry honey…we are NOT getting another dog…but it is fun to look at the pictures!!

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.  If you’re inspired to do the same, leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see.Grandpa and the grandkids

layout share the last of 2013

I did manage to fit in a little digi-scrapping at the end of last year in between family and traveling and snow and ahem, not finishing my december daily or my Project Life  (both in process)  sometimes it’s just great to do something start to finish in one sitting…done

Both of these layouts (which I am presenting as a 2 page layout) are from a beautiful digital kit designed by my dear friend Janet Carr of Little Feet Digital Designs.  the kit is available HERE and it is gor-ge-ous as you can see.  Since the page with photos was so colorful, I opted to change all of my photos to black and white so they would stand out.  I used PSE8 (i know, i know time to upgrade) and the “convert to b/w” settings to change the photos.

Hope you enjoy!  Have more to post but signing off for now to survey the snow on the roof…

Have a great day everyone

Selfies for Friday…video to share

I found this video through a digi-scrapping blog I follow (Katie at http://www.scrapbookladypages.com she’s part of the Daily Digi – love them!) It is a terrific video, if you have teenage girls or you were a teenage girl or you’re going to have a teenage girl…then this is a must-watch. Please share and pass along!! The message is so important and the gallery at the end is awesome.
